□ OVERVIEW:

KCC will be reviving Pinoy K-Pop Star through an online version of the contest. The title for this year’s Pinoy K-Pop Star is “Transcend” meaning “go beyond limits” as we are now embarking on a different era of the contest which goes beyond the usual on-ground event. This year, we will utilize the online platform as a way to also safeguard the safety of every participant and organizers. Though online platforms can be quite limiting, this will also give an opportunity for participants to explore their creativity and go beyond their limits. 

Furthermore, as per the decision of 2021 K-Pop World Festival Organizers, this year will only accept and feature Dance Performances due to COVID-19 restrictions.

□ APPLICATION INFORMATION:

a.     Eligibility

1. Participants are preferably 18 years old and above at the time of the competition.

2. Participants aged 17 years old and below will also be allowed to join.

a) The under-aged participants MUST provide a waiver that states they are allowed by their parents to join the competition and that the Korean Cultural Center in the Philippines is absolved of all responsibility in case any untoward incidents happen.

3. Participant(s) must be a resident and a citizen of the Philippines. Both parents of the participants must not have had Korean citizenship; however, if only one of the parents has acquired Korean nationality, the participant can still join.

4. Due to different COVID-19 policies and restrictions around the globe, the grand final round in Korea is still under discussion. Should it be decided that the finals will be held in Korea, the participants (upon qualification) should be eligible to travel to Korea. Nevertheless, chosen participants must be available for online finals, too, should this be the decided platform for the finals.

5. Submissions of SOLO performances are allowed, but contestants from GROUPS are not allowed to “Group hop” or join other teams when they are already a member of one group.

6. Past PKS winners are allowed to join given that they did not reach the final round of the past Changwon K-Pop World Festival.

b.     Contest Guidelines

1. Contestants must adhere to the eligibility requirements mentioned above, otherwise, the particular contestant who doesn’t follow the eligibility requirements will be subjected to disqualification.

2. This year’s Pinoy K-Pop Star is only open for DANCE PERFORMANCES. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, 2021 K-Pop World Festival organizers decided to remove the vocal category for this year. 

3. The contest is open for SOLO and GROUP performances (max 10 members).

4. Video submission must be filmed with utmost care and observance of COVID-19 protocols. 

5. Because the Vocal Category is not included this year, guidelines for the contest have been updated to accommodate Dance Performances.

1. Applicants should submit 3 contest videos:

1. (1) video of dance performance using any K-Pop songs from 2019 - 2021. It must be one full song track. No remixes allowed. Video must not exceed 6 minutes.

2. (1) video of dance performance using one of the following BTS songs: BTS <BUTTER>, <DYNAMITE> and It must be one full song track. No remixes allowed. Video must not exceed 6 minutes.

3. (1) 1-2 minutes video of self-introduction. 

4. (Optional) Should you have other dance videos you have done in the past, you may also submit 1-2 YouTube links.

6. The contestants MUST only dance the original choreography of chosen songs in the video. Doing own vocal renditions and choreography of the song is not allowed.

7. 10 Finalists will be selected to proceed to the Philippines’ final round which will be announced online on July 14, 2021. The submitted videos of the 10 finalists performing to the given required songs (BTS) will be uploaded on KCC’s SNS pages for public voting. 

8. An online live-streamed event will be held on the final announcement of winners. Top 10 finalists should be available on this day for filming via Zoom. 

9. Judges and online votes will be combined to decide the final winners. See criteria for judging below. 

10. Top 6 winners will be selected to proceed to the Korea round.

11. Decision is FINAL and IRREVOCABLE.

c.     Application Requirements

1. Completed application form (LINK: tinyurl.com/2021PKS).
2. Copy of valid ID or passport of contestant(s).
3. Recorded video files of contest pieces uploaded on YouTube plus, a download link to any file sharing app (ex. google drive, we transfer).

a) The submitted videos must adhere to the requirements stated on the guidelines.
b) Video uploaded on YouTube must be set as UNLISTED.
c) Video must be uploaded on YouTube with the following title:

• “2021 PINOY K-POP STAR – NAME” - For the free choice song

• “2021 PINOY K-POP STAR - NAME - SONG” - For the required song

d) Guidelines for the submitted recorded video:

i.   The video duration should not exceed six (6) minutes.
ii.  The video must be taken with a front, center view, landscape format, 1920x1080 resolution or higher. The whole routine of the choreography should be seen in the video.
iii. Cuts are allowed as long as the angle of the video is the same.
iv. The video must show tight and full shots of the participants.
v.  The video must have good lighting, enough to see the faces of the participants.
vi. Video must NOT be recorded with special effects or filters.

e) YouTube and Download Link to the videos must be submitted on the Application Form.

NOTE: Contestants must also have the following items ready (shoot them at the same time as their audition videos) so in case they qualify for the grand finals, they can easily submit it:

a. High resolution creative photo shots of contestants/groups.
b. Greeting video with all of the members included.
Script: “Hello, we are/I am _____. Come and see us perform in the 2021 Pinoy K-pop Star on July 30, 2021 live at KCC’s YouTube channel: youtube.com/KCCPHIL!

c.  Interview video based on a bust shot. (Performers should be centered in the video) Interview question : 1) Self Introduction (name, nationality, occupation, other self-introduction), 2) motivation to participate, 3) aspiration and determination for finals

d.     Application Procedure

1. Accomplish the 2021 Pinoy K-Pop Star Application Form (Google Drive).

2. Send the other application requirements to 2021pinoykpopstar@gmail.com with the SUBJECT: “[2021PKS] – NAME”
Other requirements to be submitted:
a. Valid ID 
b. Download link to Hi-res copy of creative photo shots of yourself/group
c. Download link to Greeting video and interview video

3. Wait for the announcement of finalists on July 14, 2021 through KCC’s official website (http://phil.korean-culture.org) and official Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/KoreanCulturalCenterPH). Finalists will be notified via e-mail as well.
