<Production Design: Scene Architects Build On-Screen Worlds> Touring Exhibition August 27(Wednesday) – November 21(Friday), 2025 From August 27 to November 21, the Korean Cultural Center in the Philippines is hosting <Production Design: Scene Architects Build On-Screen Worlds> touring exhibition (hereafter <Production Design>), which highlights the world of production design in Korean cinema. This exhibition is co-organized with the Korean Film Archive and supported by the Korea Foundation for International Cultural Exchange’s “Touring K-Arts Program.” The exhibition introduces the role and function of production design in filmmaking through the creative processes and works of Korea’s leading production designers: Ryu Seong-hee, Cho Hwa-sung, and Han Ah-reum. The exhibition features Ryu Seong-hee’s work on <The Handmaiden> and <Decision to Leave>—the former winning her the Vulcan Award of the Technical Artist at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival—along with Cho Hwa-sung’s <Hansan: Rising Dragon> and Han Ah-reum’s <Kill Boksoon> and <Kingmaker>. At the exhibition’s entrance, the final scene of <Decision to Leave>, the sandcastle, is vividly recreated. Visitors can also explore storyboards, concept designs, set plans, and graphic works from each film, as well as experience a three-channel screening space that reinterprets key scenes from the films in a multi-layered visual presentation. <Lights of Korea: Jinju Silk Lanterns> Touring Exhibition Event Period 2025-05-23 - 2025-07-31
〈Lights of Korea: Jinju Silk Lantern〉 Touring Exhibition May 24, 2025 (Fri) – July 31, 2025 (Thu) Hosted by the Korean Cultural Center in the Philippines and Jinju City, and supported by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korean Foundation for International Cultural Exchange, the touring exhibition <Lights of Korea: Jinju Silk Lanterns"> is part of the 2025 Touring K-Arts Program. The exhibition kicked off in the Philippines on May 24 and is scheduled to be held in Indonesia and Vietnam. The Philippines leg of the touring exhibition features approximately 900 silk lanterns, creating an immersive and three-dimensional space through a symbolic tunnel-shaped installation. In addition, symbolic wall displays reminiscent of the Jinju Namgang Yudeung Festival and a experiential area for making silk lanterns are set up to highlight the role of the exhibition as a cultural bridge between Korea and the Philippines. <Maedeup, Korean Knots> Touring Exhibition by the National Folk Museum of Korea November 22, 2024 (Friday) – January 29, 2025 (Wednesday) The <Maedeup, Korean Knots> exhibition, jointly organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism(MCST), the National Folk Museum of Korea, and the Korean Cultural Center in the Philippines, will be held at the Metropolitan Museum of Manila(BGC). This exhibition delves into the rich tradition of Korean knotting, exploring the materials, techniques, and creative processed involved in the craft. It offers a comprehensive overview of the gistory of Maedeup(traditional Korean knots), from its foundational concepts to its contemporary applications in decorative design. <Imagine Tondo!> Exhibition Event Period 2024-10-04 - 2024-11-04
<Imagine Tondo!> October 4 – November 4, 2024 <2024 Arts and Culture Education ODA in the Philippines>, hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism Republic of Korea and organized by the Korea Arts & Culture Education Service (KACES), was conducted in collaboration with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP). It provided training and workshop programs for teachers, artists, and students in Tondo, Manila. This year, the program was conducted in Tondo public schools and care centers and reached a total of 252 participants. The workshops blended science, technology, and arts, based on concepts from modern physics (such as quantum physics, space-time, and the properties of light), and focused on creating upcycled artworks that reflect local environmental issues. This exhibition showcases the outcomes of the collaboration between the rich cultural and artistic resources of the Philippines and arts and culture education of Korea. Visitors will experience the passion for arts and culture education demonstrated by Filipino teachers and artists, along with the creativity of students who have rediscovered themselves and their communities, creating new meanings beyond their everyday routines. <Hangeul Design Project-Reinterpreting Hangeul in the Modern Era> Touring Exhibition by the National Hangeul Museum September 6, 2024 (Friday) – February 28, 2025 (Friday) Hangeul Design Project-Reinterpreting Hangeul in the Modern Era touring exhibition will be held in the Philippines. It is organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST), the National Hangeul Museum, and the Korean Cultural Center in the Philippines. The exhibition's theme is "The Experimentation and Modern Reinterpretation of Hangeul in the Modern Era." It will showcase Hangeul materials reflecting its transformation and experimental efforts from the opening of ports in 1876 until Korea's liberation in 1945. Visitors will encounter a range of works that reinterpret the "Hangeul Experiments" and "Spirit of the Times" from the modern era through a contemporary lens. Exhibition Sections A. Modern Hangeul Research Institute · <한HAN글文> by Lee Hwayoung, which symbolically expresses the value and role of modern Hangeul through the background and visual elements of Ahakpyeon (1908) · Familiar and New, Connected by Lee Cheongcheong, a fashion reinterpretation of Haneomunjeon (1881), viewed through the lens of a fusion of Korean traditional and Western cultures · Untitled by Park Chunmoo, inspired by the title of the Malmoi manuscript (1910s), merging the structure and features of Hangeul characters with fashion patterns · The Form of Words by Han Donghun, reviving the aesthetic value of both horizontal and syllabic writing of Hangeul in a modern context · Lacquerware (Hangeul Series) by Yoo Namkwon, expressing the Hangeul shapes of Hunminjeongeum Haerye and Hangeul title fonts from modern publications in lacquerware · Journey of the Swallow by Tori’s (a Korean Traditional Music A Cappella Group), a lively rhythmic performance inspired by the Pansori printed with modern Hangeul moveable type In addition to the exhibition on the 5th floor, a Special Exhibition of Hangeul Cultural Products will be held simultaneously in the 1st-floor permanent exhibition hall, featuring a variety of products themed around Hangeul.
