Cultural Center Hands Over Learning Materials to DepEd

Sejong Institute and Korean Embassy, through the Korean Cultural Center in the
Philippines (KCC), handed over the donated Korean language textbooks and
educational materials to the Department of Education (DepEd) on August 14,
2019, at the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in the Philippines.
The
educational materials donated to DepEd is for the 8 schools included in the
Batch 2 DepEd Special Foreign Language – Korea (DepEd SPFL-Korea) namely Boot
National High School, Dacanlao G. Agoncillo National High School, Gov.
Feliciano Leviste Memorial National High School, Quezon National High School, Tanza
National Comprehensive High School, Rizal National Science High School, Francisco
P. Felix Memorial National High School, and San Pedro Relocation Center
National High School.
The
donation ceremony was attended by Director Lee Jincheol of KCC, Riza Gusano DepEd
SPFL Coordinator and Rose Domingo Officer-in-Charge for Special Programs. Representatives
from the Batch 2 schools were also present receive the items which include 888 language
textbooks and 32 conversation textbooks to be used for the Korean Language
Classes.
The
Embassy of the Republic of Korea in the Philippines and the Department of
Education (DEpEd) signed the Special Program in Foreign Language- Korea
(SPFL-Korea) agreement on June 21, 2017, that allowed DepEd to teach the Korean
language in public high schools. The Korean language education training for
local high school teachers in the Philippines began in 2017 at the KCC, and the
King Sejong Institute in Korea has dispatched Korean teachers to the
Philippines to teach the language. The DepEd SPFL-Korea language program is
supported by Korea’s Ministry of Education.
The second
batch of DepEd SPFL program teachers finished their training and immersion
program last June 2019. The teachers started teaching the Korean Language this
school year.
“I
believe that these books and learning materials will be a great help for the
teachers and the students who are learning the Korean language. I hope that
through this initiative, students will be more interested to learn and
appreciate the Korean language,” KCC Director LEE Jincheol said.
