2017 KOREAN SPEECH CONTEST 
GUIDELINES

I.          ELIGIBILITY FOR APPLICATION

·          Participant must be a citizen of the Philippines

·          Korean nationals and Korean native speakers are not eligible to join

·          Contest is open to all ages with good proficiency in Korean, however, in case the grand prize winner is a minor, he or she must secure the necessary documents and shoulder the expenses of his or her guardian who will go with him or her to Korea

·          Must not have been a grand prize winner in the previous Korean speech contests held by KCC

·          Must not have lived/stayed in Korea for more than one (1) year in the past three (3) years. (Those who stayed in Korea for more than one year in 2014-2016 will not be allowed to join.)

II.        APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

·          Completed application form

·          Copy of the participant’s valid ID

·          Participant’s written speech (Computerized Hangeul and English versions)

·          Participant’s recorded MP3 of the speech

III.      APPLICATION PROCEDURE

a.       The applicants must send the application requirements via e-mail to kccphevents@gmail.com or by sending the application to the respective Korean Community Association offices in Baguio, Pampanga, Cebu, Iloilo, and Davao where the applicant wants to join on or before MARCH 31, 2017.

b.      If sending via e-mail to kccphevents@gmail.com, the subject head must follow this format: 
[2017KSC] LOCATION WHERE YOU WILL JOIN (Manila/Cebu/Davao/Iloilo/Pampanga/Baguio) – NAME

e.       Qualified applicants will be notified directly via e-mail.

IV.      SPEECH TOPIC AND DETAILS

·          The participant must compose an original speech that would relate to the main topic of “My Treasure” (나의 보물) (Example: “My Doll,” “Education, My Parents’ Gift,” “The Friends I Grew Up With,” etc.)

·          The length of the speech must be a minimum of four (4) minutes and a maximum of five (5) minutes.

V.        COMPETITION DATES

SEMI-FINALS (MANILA)

·         Date: April 8, 2017 (SATURDAY)

·         Time: 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.

·         Venue: KCC Wave Hall

·         Participants: maximum of 20 pax

SEMI-FINALS (REGIONAL LOCATIONS)

·         Date: April 8, 2017 (SATURDAY)

·         Time: 2:00 – 4:00 p.m.

·         Venue: To be announced by the Korean Community Association offices in Davao, Cebu, Iloilo, Baguio, and Pampanga

GRAND FINALS

·         Date: April 29, 2017 (SATURDAY)

·         Time: 2:00 – 5:00 p.m.

·         Venue: Department of Engineering Theater, University of the Philippines – Diliman

·         Participants: 10 pax ( 1 – Cebu, 1 – Davao, 1 – Iloilo, 1 – Baguio, 1 – Pampanga, 5 – Manila)

VI.      CONTEST RULES

Semi-Finals (Manila and Regional)

·          Participants must try their best to memorize their speech in time for the semi-finals.

·          Cue cards will be allowed but direct reading of script is not permitted.

·          Speech length must be from 4-5 minutes.

Grand Finals (Manila)

·          Participants must fully memorize their speech and deliver the speech live on stage without the need for cue cards.

·          No coaching is allowed.

·          Slight disparity between the submitted written speech and delivered speech will not be subject to penalty as long as the content is the same.

·          Time limit will be strictly observed. Points will be deducted from the participant if the speech presentation exceeds the allotted time limit of five (5) minutes.
